Regional staple grain, bean, and flour processing
Shagbark Seed & Mill Co. is a prototype regional scale processing facilty, launched by the Appalachian Staple Foods Collaborative, that offers field-to-table products made from organic and chemical free grains, beans, and seed crops. We work with Ohio farmers who certified organic or agree to grow without chemical inputs to fill the processing gap in the value chain that is now dominated by global commodities. Our goals are to develop a regional scale that 1. delivers affordable healthy food to the market, and 2. increases farm acreage producing high-nutrtion crops using sustainable production methods.
