What suggestions would you have for us?
HI all,
Our website has been up for about 6 months: http://www.maketempeh.org and we have met a few people of this group in person.
While the website has had many responses from individuals and from about 28 countries, we do not get any responses from the farm community. We do not know how to make ourselves more widely known, but we have written to various relevant organizations - no response.
When we retired in 1996 from our on-farm food processing venture we thought the lack of interest by the farming community was because we were way ahead of the times - now it is 2009 and nothing seems to have changed.
Any ideas ?

I say don't give up yet. I
I say don't give up yet. I was really inspired by Betsy's discussion with me in Ohio earlier this year about the benefits of tempeh. Plus, all of the possibilities for this food product.
A couple of questions:
What type of responses are you looking for? For instance, are you looking for buyers of tempeh product? Or, maybe people that are interested in participating in projects or programs based around tempeh as a resource (like helping people learn to produce, etc)? Looking for people interested in growing soy beans for tempeh production, and/or producing tempeh? or, maybe all of the above.
I really hope others sound off her, too.
I did find your blog post at http://www.maketempeh.org/weblog/20089.html discussing your goals, which I think are very plausible. I also wonder what types of businesses might potentially exist in the production of tempeh? You have a lot of great info at http://www.maketempeh.org/make_it_at_home.html hats off to you for sharing this information, including bill of materials needed to produce, and how to do it.
For my part, I will send this out among my networks of people and see if we can draw in more responses. There are many businesses here in Michigan that would be interested in this. I suppose another question is: are there interested organic soy bean farmers in the region who can supply raw materials?
